Hair today, gone tomorrow - The Hindu

Indian tradition for sporting long hair & PARADOX...

An Indian tradition for long hair

India is a country with rich culture and heritage. Indian civilization is one of the oldest civilization like China, Egypt and Babylon. In India's great epics, like Ramayana, Mahabharata find elaborate notes on woman's hair dressings, hair ornaments, hair styles and hair growing medicines.

All the female characters have thick, long beautiful hair which they either braid or wear in bun on the top of their head like crown or in bun. They used to decorate it with flowers and ornaments.

In ancient India, most of the men used to keep long hair to respect Indian god "Shiva". Shiva sports long matted hair. He wears matted locks in a large coiled bun on the top of his head.

All of our god's have long hair wore in this fashion. Even "Buddha" sported hair in topknot.

Most of the Indian men, used to wear their long hair in the same style i.e. hair coiled in bun on the top of the head.

Several scholarly articles on yoga and meditation mention benefits of topknot hairstyle. It was a tradition during that era. Indian culture is based on sacrifice and highest attainment is "SALVATION". Salvation can be achieved through meditation, prayers (chanting god's name) Bun (Top knot) on the head serves like an antenna and helps to concentrate in meditation. Most of the deity statues are like that.

Some men look appealing with flowing long hair, like few Indian gods, Lord Krishna

Now a day, no Indian man bears long hair except monks and Sikh community. Hair are short and neatly cut.

Sikh community: In this community cutting hair is a sin. Sikh men and women do not cut hair for the lifetime. This community is all over the world. Sikh men can be identified by their turbans and long beard.

This community is from the state of Punjab in India. It's a warrior community. They keep hair and wear it like monk as they feel that it is confluence of a monk and warrior. Sikh men all the time wear hair it in a very tight bun on the top of their head. It resembles a monk/ Shiva /Buddha image. (Can you imagine not cutting hair for the lifetime, great commitment towards the religion)

I have known some Sikh friends with hair reaching their knees and they spend lots of time every day for braiding it, bunning it, wearing turban. They even don't cut facial hair(do not shave for lifetime) so they have to neatly keep their beards. Mothers help young ones to maintain long hair.

Sikh females wear their hair in braids or bun but not like men (On the top of their head) but like normal woman. But since they do not cut for the lifetime, their hair are very long. Some women wear it like sikh men in bun on the top of the head. (Very few)

These people wear turbans at office, during work, schools & colleges. Long hair is a subject of pride for Sikh men and woman. Sikhs are pride of India

Regarding Indian woman, in cities like Mumbai, Delhi most of the woman are working so they have short hair which they can manage very fast. In big cities, we have modern salons, where you can get any hair cut under the sun. In any colour. Still some woman keep long hair. In fact I strongly feel woman look most beautiful in long hair.

In India applying hair oil is a normal practise Normally all woman apply oil while combing. It helps them to remove hair tangles easily.

Woman normally use coconut oil or mustard oil for the same. But in Indian villages and small towns one finds most of the women sporting long hair oiled and neatly combed into a single braid or a large bun on the back of the head.

If I am not exggagerating, Long hair oiled and combed neatly into a braid or a tight bun could be National hair style of India. In fact oil keeps hair in proper shape so in most of the schools in India, applying oil to hair is compulsory for girls and boys and their hair have to be neatly combed into braid(for girls) and short hair for boys. It is a part of discipline.

Traditionally mother combs daughters hair everyday morning before school. Grown up girl does it on her own.

Few India men also aspire to grow hair but normally if they are into modelling/ rock group. But still in India if they see a guy like this with long hair or a pony tail or hair wore in bun, he is not considered as a part of main stream he is considered to be a rebel.

But all of our gods, goddess's are with long hair and still 80% woman in India sport long hair.

PARADOX????

In India we have richest temple in the world. It is called "TIRUPATI-BALAJI" it is situated in Suthern India. Its a strong belief of Indians, that whatever you pray for, "TIRUPATI-BALAJI" fulfills it.

Every day minimum 1,00,000 pilgrims visit this place. During festivals, it is up to 5,00,000 pilgrims a day. People vow to god. After fulfilment of their vow, they offer hair to god "TIRUPATI-BALAJI"

MEN & WOMAN TONSH THEIR HEAD, THEY OFFER HAIR TO GOD.

WOMAN OFFER THEIR PAINSTAKINGLY GROWN LONG HAIR HAPPILY AND BECOME BALD; AFTER FULFILMENT OF THEIR WISH. IT'S TERRIFYING SEEING A BARBER WITH A BLADE/RAZOR TONSURING A RAPUNZELS SCALP AND HER LONG HAIR FALLING OFF HER HEAD. AND THE DEVOTEE WITH A SMILING FACE.
EVERY DAY SEVERAL WOMEN OFFER THEIR LONG FLOWING HAIR LIKE THAT.

THAT'S INCREDIBLE INDIA.

Pothraj : Indian community - Parents take a vow to grow their son's hair long like goddess

POTRAJ / POTHRAJ
I started searching for Potraj / Pothraj on internet and I came across following videos of boys with long hair from Pothraj community.
Parents take a vow to grow their son's hair long like goddess and make him servant of goddess. He lives like a goddess and takes others pains and curses on him.

Is not a girl but he is a Pothraj – YouTube
In the first video, a boy with a long hair neatly plaited in braid. His name was Mahadev and his parents taken a vow at Draupadi amman temple in Chandrapur that if they are blessed with a boy child they will devote him to the goddess and raise him like a Pothraj. He was born after 6 consecutive girls. The interviewer persuaded him to cut his long hair but he was quite firm on the stand that he’ll not cut his hair until death. I was quite impressed with the boy. I wished that he could continue growing it but wear it like a Sikh man and wear a turban.

Pothraj – Marathi Documentary
In this documentary there is a boy with long hair studying in 3rd standard. When asked whether he wants to take up Pothraj tradition once he grows, his answer was affirmative. He answered that his grandfather and father are in this profession and hence he would like to take up this profession. His hair were unkempt. I felt that he should oil his hair and neatly comb it like the boy from the first video. Again great dedication.

Usmanabad – A Story of a Pothraj 12 May 2015
This video was about a boy raised like a Pothraj by parents as per the vow taken at the time of his birth. He was 11 years old with hair reaching his waist. He wanted to be a normal boy and cut his hair.
After seeing these videos, I was quite moved with the dedication of Pothraj boys
I wished I were also raised like a Pothraj.
These videos gave me a spiritual high for quite sometime.

Long hair lovers, please watch these videos and give your comments.

Story 13 : My wish of growing hair like woman fulfilled with the help of maid servant.

I'm a simple guy who always wanted to grow my hair but never could until I had to leave to college in a city where I spent my childhood.

My parents didn't want me to stay in a hostel they spoke to an old maid of ours and made the arrangements I had my own flat now and a maid to do all the work for me I was excited about the whole thing me staying alone with no one to judge me and no restrictions. I reached the flat it was great well furnished and spacious two bedroom flat maid stayed nearby.

My maid was very friendly middle aged woman she very friendly and caring. I started growing my hair long and referred internet for help I bought biotin and fish oil pills and Olive and castor oil they worked and in a month or so my hair reached my shoulder the oils and conditioners helped me get smooth wavy voluminous hair my maid commented even a girl wouldn't take so much about her hair.

I smiled as my hair got longer I needed help I didn't know what to do then came my maid I realized she was the only one who could help me so I asked her she said she would love to help me out due to the pills my hair growth was fast and healthy as it was long my maid used to brush and give me a hot oil massag every alternate day before leaving for college.

Everyone were impressed about my hair and girls started talking to me for tips and they just love my hair my maid was shocked how fast my hair was growing and said your hair will never stop growing at that moment I wanted to know how long my hair could grow by then my hair was reaching my middle back.

I complained about my hair getting unmanageable then my maid suggested to get my hair braided or tie it in a ponytail. "BRAID" I exclaimed she responded there's nothing called men's or women's hairstyle it's just a hairstyle which helps us to manage our hair I said ponytail would be easy she taught me how to wear one.

Apart from what my parents were paying I started giving her extra amount for taking care of my hair from my pocket. Rubber bands wr damaging my hair so my maid bought cotton bands to keep my hair safe we started knowing each other well there were no formalities between us but she never crossed her line.

After few days she suggested me to get my hair trimmed at the ends to avoid split ends I got it done now my hair was symmetric it kinda looked girly from the back. After getting my hair oiled my ponytail was getting clumsy she suggested to braid my hair and we tried it on a weekend and it sure helped I felt shy but she said there's nothing wrong and I looked great I felt happy that I got used to braids.

My dressing table was now filled with hair care products, bands, different types of combs any girl would die to have these things. I suggested my maid to stay In the extra bedroom as I was getting late to college waiting for her she was happy because she could stay for free.

On a Sunday after a head bath she was drying my hair and we werr watching TV. I saw an actress wearing pigtails and said how would I look in twin braids and smiled at her and started watching TV after a while she started brushing my hair and I fell asleep.

After some time she woke me up and was standing in front of me with a mirror and said this is how you look in twin braids I was feeling ashamed she saw that and said its just a hairstyle and u look fabulous. She was right I looked great and they she spoke I felt comfortable she was right it's just a hairstyle there's nothing wrong in wearing what you like girly and manly things were created by human it's wish to stay and do whatever we want to.

I said I liked my hairstyle and I want you to try different styles on me she was happy the way . I reacted she said wish could have a son like me. I took her hand and said treat me like ur son. She hugged me tight and said she was staying away from family to earn and being with me she wasn't missing her family. She was right bcuz of her I wasn't missing my parents from that our bond got stronger.

I started wearing braid to college some teased me some appreciated some never expressed but I was confident in what I was doing. People will think what they want I don't have to care what others think about me it's there wish. At home I started helping my maid in small things like keeping my room clean and all.

Once my maid was braiding my hair and she said I was just like her son throughout the day except in the mornings. I asked why exception then she replied in the mornings u seem more like a daughter to me and she started laughing and I joined her.

Once we were watching a movie and actress was wearing a traditional dress and coming to the hair she was wearing something thing to her braid I asked my maid she said they are called Jada gantalu those are hair accessories.

I asked can she get those for me she said that's going to be girly then with a wicked smile on my face I said holding my pigtails aren't these girly?. Haha she gave up OK baba I'll get those for you but on one condition.

I was so eager try those I said whatever it is i will do and she left to the shop and was back with few bags I asked her what are all those she asked me to wait and gifted me a Saree with beautiful earrings and bangles I was surprised this is want I want you to wear now this was my condition and u accepted it and with a smile I asked her are you serious?

She said you looked cute when you were holding your braids and said aren't these girly I just want to see how would you look like a girl I smiled back and she helped me get dressed and after everything was done I was sitting at the dressing table and she was braiding my hair and at the end came Jada gantalu.

Few other accessories I looked like a bride then came the photoshoot it was our Lil secret I changed back to my clothes in the evening but I let my hair be in a braid with Jada gantalu I loved it and once in few days I used to dress for her just for fun. I've tried many hairstyles and I'll keep trying

Hindu boy fascinated by Sikh values and converted to Sikhism

I was born into a hindu family as Hitesh Kapoor and as usual had mundan and haircuts. I studied in a school which was sikh oriented and almost 90% of the students were sikhs and used to tie turban. I took the sikh values and culture from my school and by the time i was in 8th ( 14 years) i decided to be a sikh and keep my hair. My father was quite angry with my decision but our family respected sikh faith a lot so he agreed and i became Hitesh Singh Kapoor. Initially i had a lot of problems to grow my hair as they grew unevenly. I had to visit saloon many a times to resize my hair. But by the time i was in 10th i was a complete sikh.

Punjabi woman wants to grow hair of his son and make him Sikh

Confessions...

I m a hindu girl married to a Sikh...I  have not kept long hair hair judda for many years .. but since last 4 years I feel like growing hair and making large judda .. my son is only 1 year old but my husband and in laws keep cutting his hair .. I wanted to keep his juddi and tie his patka .. but I know I will never be able to tie his juddi

I agree .. I don't know why Sikhs are after a hair cut .. I maintain long hair touching my hips .. I end up making a lovely big judda after oiling and combing my hair .. even I told my mother in law and sister in law that my son will look so cute in juddi ..and he can become a true Sikh. When he grows up it will be his choice to continue with juddi or not ..I wish he continues. But I am so fond of small sardar kids with little juddis and smart Sikh boys in turban

Sikh girls these days don't like long hair .. like boys.

Dreadlocks & Spirituality

Dreadlocks are a universal phenomenon in the East as well as in the West.
Spiritualists of all faiths and backgrounds incorporate into their paths a disregard for physical appearances and vanity. And so, throughout the world, such seekers often cease to comb, cut, or otherwise dress their hair: This is how "dreadlocks" are born. Left to its own devices, hair will naturally knot together and form mats or "dreadlocks". Upon seeing Dreadlocks, most people think of Bob Marley, reggae, and Rastafarianism, unaware that the roots of Dreadlocks go back
Dreadlocks have been a part of the history of every spiritual system. From Christianity to Hinduism, locked hair has been been a symbol of a highly spiritual person who is trying to come closer to God(s).
… The first known examples of the hairstyle date back to ancient Egypt, where dreadlocks appeared on Egyptian artifacts. Mummified remains of ancient Egyptians with dreadlocks have even been recovered from archaeological sites.
Dreadlocks are more than just a symbolic statement of disregard for physical appearance. Both Eastern and Western Traditions hold that bodily, mental and spiritual energies mainly exit the body through the top of the head and the hair. If the hair is knotted, they believe, the energy remains within the hair and the body, keeping a person more strong and healthy.
the tale of Samson and Delilah in which a man’s potency is directly linked to ‘the seven locks on his head’ (the biblical Sampson wore his hair in dreadlocks, and his unsurpassed strength was lost when Delilah cut off his seven locks of hair) and according to Roman accounts, the Celts were described to have ‘hair like snakes’ Germanic tribes, Greeks and the Vikings are all said to have worn dreadlocks too.
Originally, dreadlocks were the mark of spiritual status, Dogon Priest and Kemetic Spiritual Master Naba Lamoussa Morodenibig of The Earth Center explained in an interview. Priests of diverse Deities were required, at least for a specific period of time, to have dreadlocks. For example, priests of Deities that are involved in the healing of the body and with procreation, such as Wsr, Heru, Theouris and Sekhmet, are required to have dreadlocks. There is a period of seven to thirteen years that a priest of these Deities must let their hair grow freely and devote themselves completely to the Deity.

Dreadlocks carry a very heavy spiritual meaning that is virtually unknown in today's modern society. Now worn as a fashion statement, a political message, or as a rebellion, many people, young and old alike, have no idea what dreadlocks mean spiritually, and they do not know the position they are putting themselves in by having locked hair.

Story 12 : True passion for Sikhism - Converted from Hindu to Sikh - Ran away avoid haircut

Real story of converting to Sikhism

PHILLAUR, Punjab (January 25, 2014)—Recently, in the Village of Phillaur, Khera, at Gurwara Shaheeda Singhan there was a turban tying competition. The centre of attention was a 16 year old amritdhari contestant who had converted to Suraj Singh from Suraj Kumar.

Many at the competition were shocked at the story he narrated about his conversion to Sikhi. His story raised concerns on the inner workings of the Sikhs’ top governing body, the SGPC , which works for the welfare of Sikhs and whose budget is more than that of the regional government.

Suraj Singh said at Gurwara Shaheeda Singhan, that he and his mother sacrificed a lot for him to receive Amrit baptism, wherein his father divorced his mother and also left them homeless. Not only this, after the incident, no one amongst his relatives talks to them. He said his family looks at him with scorn.

Suraj Singh, is the son of Satan Bhagat, resident of Lallu Nagar, District Kathiar, Bihar Hall, who is now residing at Punjab Village, Khanori. When he was 6 months old, his family came to Punjab to earn a living as laborers.  When he grew up, he was sent to the government school of Khanori.

When he was older, one of the students gifted him the biography of Guru Gobind Singh. After reading it, he was so inspired, that he decided to become a Sikh of the Guru. During this time, he stopped trimming his hair. Due to poverty, his parents did not take things seriously and meanwhile his grandmother passed away. Due to this, Suraj was surrounded by many hardships because according to their custom, if anyone in the family dies, all boys of the house have to trim their hair—a custom against Sikh values.

Initially, Suraj revolted against this, but when nobody in his family supported him, he ran away from home and hid at a Gurdwara Sahib in Khloti. To abide by the custom, the family kept on searching for Suraj Singh before his grandmother’s cremation, but they could not find him for 2 months. When they found him after 2 months, he had received Amrit and was Suraj Singh now.

Suraj Singh’s mother is a laborer in the village to earn a living for both of them. Only Suraj Singh’s classmate Jaskaran Singh, and another villager, Gurdeep Singh have helped them.

Reports from locals say that Suraj Singh was taken to SGPC President Avtar Makkar to seek help but he was turned away immediately. Suraj Singh did not get turned off from Sikhi after this incident, but rather he is studying and spreading the word about Sikhism in different villages—he is becoming an example for Sikhs.

Suraj Singh said that in today’s modern world boys from the Sikh community consider turban and long hair out of style—they trim their hair and use tobacco and other intoxicating substances. He feels that Sikh youth should consider their religion the best. By looking at Suraj Singh’s love and passion for the religion, NRI Satnam Singh Khera from Canada, awarded him a cash prize.

Gradually mom practicing on me, One day she gives head massage, another day face pack, face massage, another day body massage etc., with in three months my hair become smooth like silk, by seeing my hair dad advised mom to keep my hair loose like girls, because my hair is excellent to see, i also said the same, then she trimmed my hair and put rubber band as ponytail, I went to school with ponytail first time and everyone in class admired to see my long smooth hair, i keeping my loose hair front side as girls do, and also enjoyed with silky hair, i keeping my hair very carefully, daily after coming from school i took bath, now no turbon i have loose hair so mom combing as two plaits as girls, it was also awesome for me, One day evening dad brought jasmine flowers to mom, mom put some jasmine flowers in my braid, it was strange feeling for me, dad also praised my beauty, i slept with them, next day morning mom ponytailed my hair and with that ponytail i went to school.

Every one in my class admiring with my thick, silky hair. with in three months mom completed her tailoring course also, so she started tailoring work practicing on me, now she taking measurements and stitched first blouse for me, she put that on me and observing and changing measurement and finally she stitched one designer blouse for me, stitching perfect blouse means she is expert in ladies tailoring, so in this three months she stitched almost 20 blouses for me, when i come from school she puts blouse and checks will it suits me or not, gradually i also showing interest in stitching and beauty course.
Now mom is expert in beauty course and tailoring also, I was going to school with one turban on my head, but now i am going to school with different hair styles, by seeing me new customers are coming to salon.

Summer holidays has came, enjoying holidays, one day morning when mom combing my hair i asked her saree to wear, then she laughed and given her cream color designer saree and she guided me to wear after that she put her jewellery and with loose long thick braid, i was looking real woman she put jasmine garland, i started wearing saree daily.
So she requested me to help her in cooking, i said ok and started helping, with in two months she handover all house work to me and she is leaving to salon early, she is getting good income and i am also enjoying as girl.

Best hair quality in India - Telugu (Andhra Pradesh, Telangana) woman : Bapu Bommalu - Hair care

I have always been in awe of women with very long and thick hair. Up until now my benchmark was Malayalee, Bengali and Punjabi women who according to most Indians have the longest and thickest hair. Their eating habits (fish, lentils and coconut) and hair regime (coconut and mustard oil) have been cited as the main reasons. But I remember always my mother saying that a real test to a woman’s hair thickness is when she ties a pony tail or plaits it. The girth/ diameter gives away the real thickness. When women let down their hair it is very deceptive because curly / wavy hair women would seem to have much more hair than straight hair women. Which I have many times witnessed too when I get a shock when I see some women in plaits or pony tail and realize their hair is not that thick after all and it is the trapped air among the hair strands and the puffy nature of the hair.

So when I recently relocated to Hyderabad, I was in for a shock for my ignorance. My whole impression that Malayalee/ Bengali/ Punjabi women had the thickest hair was totally erased. After seeing so many women in the streets with such long and thick plaits, I am convinced Telugu women may be the underdogs who have never been given the due recognition of having the best Indian hair. Another interesting observation was most of these women who had thick and long hair were not from the middle or upper societies. This makes evident the fact that whatever they were doing were home remedies and less salon hair treatments and commercial products. As I am in a goal to grow long and thick hair, I would like to understand more about the habits of Telugu women. I also strongly believe hair care is a holistic lifestyle approach and not just about a product which is applied on the hair and thus would be happy to hear about the following …
1. What kind of oil do they use for the hair(coconut/mustard/peanut/sesame oil or any other?)
2. Do they add any herbs to the oil?
3. How often and how do they oil their hair?
4. How long does the oil stay on the hair?
5. Do they use any other hair packs on their hair? If so how often and how long do they keep it?
6. What do they use traditionally to wash of the oil in their hair (not shampoos!)
7. How do they dry their hair?
8. How do they wear their hair at home ( tied in a bun/ plait/ or let down)
9. What food items are included mainly on a daily basis in their food diet which could contribute to their thick hair growth? Some items that have been found to increase hair growth are the following , please let me know if any of this is abundant on a daily basis ( please note I am assessing a vegetarian diet)
a. Frequency in a week for Dals and dal powder
b. Frequency in a week for Green leaves
c. Frequency in a week for Coconut based dishes and coconut oil
d. Frequency of Usage of fenugreek seeds
e. What kind of oil is used for cooking?
f. Any others?

Hope the Telugu ladies in Indus ladies who come across this query would be able to enlighten me on what traditional methods they have been following or know of what their mothers/ grandmothers followed to have long and thick hair. It would be very helpful to me or others who are seeking to have good hair growth

Story 8 : Hatred for an abusive father - I hated being a male & want to look like mother

My Story.

I started getting serious about dressing when I was 13-14.

At this time I used to watch my mother sun-bake in her bikini and I was fascinated by the female body. My mother was a very beautiful and sexy woman.

I adored her and any other female who looked after themselves. I look after myself and watch what I eat just like we all should. I want to fit into sexy dresses and stay that way.

I think I have to start from the beginning.

For the first 14 years of my live all I had known was abuse from my father. Even though they divorce when I was 9, he would not leave us alone and we had to move many times to try to lose him but he would fine us again. He was very violent to my mother and I hated him for that. As far as I can remember I didn't want to be a male. I didn't want to be like him. I hated being a male for a very long time. So l looked towards my mother as a role model. My father is an idiot because he abused and lost a very sweet, loving, cute and sexy woman and a loving mother to his children.

To give you an idea of my mother. when you look at my avatar which is me you are also looking at my mother. I am like her in many ways. Perhaps nature make a mistake with me and I should be in a female body. My mother has no daughters. When I was about 6-7, my mother caught me wearing her high hells and she wanted to know what I was doing. I told her I wanted to grow up and be a beautiful girl just like her. She told me that I can't because I am a boy. I told her as serious as a 6-7 year old can be that I will try. The look on her face is a memory that I will take to my grave. Her face was full of love and I think she almost cried tears of joy and she gave me a huge hug. She was so beautiful and at that time, she was 26 years old and looked a lot younger than her years. A lot younger. People could not believe she was my mother. They thought she was my sister until my late teens.

My mother told me that when she was about 15-16 she was stopped in the street and was offered a modeling job in a fashion magazine. She didn't take up the offer to her later regret. She also tells me that it was hard to have girl friends as they became jealous of her for all the attention my mother was getting from the boys. When I was still at school, my friends where very jealous of me because I lived under the same roof as my mother. My friends told me things that they wanted to do to her that made me very embarrassed and proud of her at the same time. They kept thinking she was my sister.

You now get the idea about my mother. I hated being a male and I wanted so much to be like her. Because I hated being a male I have never had much confidence in being a male and not many girls took much notice of me. You could say I was attention starved and I think I still am. I have not had many relationships at all in my life. I lost my virginity when I was 21 to a prostitute, only one girl would have me before that and we where only 14 at that time when she gave me a condom. I have no confidence and hated to be a male because I was so afraid to hurt like my father has done and so no one else would have me so I had to pay someone to have me out of my frustration. Sure I got attention from my mother but I could not love her as a lover as much as I wished. She was the only female to love me for what I am. So I think that is natural for me to want her as a lover when I was in my early teens and the hormones where starting to rage in me.

I had many chances to try. but I am getting away from the topic of this group.

When I was about 14, my mother used to brush my long hair just like mother and daughter with her sitting very close to me between my legs. very close. If my friends seen this I would be very embarrassed for letting her treat me as a sissy and at the same time they would be very jealous of me for having a beautiful woman between my legs that close. And I was embarrassed because of strange feelings that was growing between my legs. Then she once she stopped brushing my long hair and held my face in her soft and loving hands and told me that I looked like her when she was my age and said that my hair is wasted on a boy. Remember she has no daughters. I would of been dressing in her clothes at this time.

I kept to my promise as a 6 year old that I will try to be a girl just like her.

It was also around this time that she caught me wearing her best sexy dress and heels. she was not afraid to show off her assets. She just closed the door to her room and left me to get undressed and tidy up.

She never said anything because she already knew. before she caught me in her dress there was a time that I forgot to put her pantyhose away and asked me if I had being in her drawers. I tried to act innocent and said no through a very red blush. I think my blush gave me away. She said nothing so I took that as it ok, its fine by her to keep going.

Later after catching me dressed up, we where watching a show on the TV about female impersonators. My mother just said why don't I do that because I would be good at it and make a lot of money for something that comes natural to me and she would support and help me all the way. I was just stunned to say the least and my face felt very hot and red. I pretended not to listen. I was so stupid and young. I should of jumped up and went over and kissed her. That would of been a dream come true. That would be my biggest regret in my life. I am sorry for the fun times we could of had as mother and daughter. Because she had no daughters, I could of returned her love and provided her with one. I could of been both a son and a daughter for her.

If only I could turn back the hands of time and taken up her offer. My mother is the only female who understands me and loves me for who I am with all my faults. I mean unconditional love. No matter what. I have been "loved" by some females but under conditions. I had one who compared me with her abusive ex-husband when I acted weird at the very few times when things got tough between us. That is not fair and is very wrong, I am me not him and giving me more reasons to hate myself as a male.

When I am dressed up I am at piece within myself and my male anger at myself for being a male is no more and this anger makes me do stupid things and I always fall in love with the wrong females who wont listen or understand me and why I do stupid things. I feel complete and loved when dressed up. I love how it takes way my pain and feel at piece. I have became a beautiful girl like my mother as I said as a 6 year old.

Thank you all you abusive males out there for making my male life tough.

Sorry that this is long.

I thank you if your read to this line.

Story 7 : Long hair passion lead to becoming monk and wearing dreadlocks like Shiva

My name is Mohan. Since childhood I had a great passion for long hair. I wanted to grow hair very long, long like woman.

In my fantasies, I used to dream that I am a man with long hair. But being from a maharashtrian family, I could not pursue my dream. During school days I was under a great influence of my parents. They always instated on trimming hair to the shortest possible.

I used to envy my Sikh schoolmates, who grew long hair. The desire for growing hair long always remained.

Once I passed my secondary school examination and joined college, it was a high time. I decided enough is enough. I will grow hair now, as per my wish and to the length of my wish. I wanted to fulfill my passion.

Now the biggest challenge was how to convince parents?

Since our family is god fearing and always deeply believed in good, I decided to take a false shelter of their weakness.

With due regards to merciful god. I told my parents, that god Shiva had come in my dream and his divine message is to grow hair for next 5 years. I deliberately told 5 years since; I read in many books on growing hair that average growth of a hair is 15 cm. per year. So if I want to grow around waist long hair i.e. @ 21/2 feet, I have to grow for 5 years.

Naturally, mother was convinced but father took some objection, his worry, was how I would take of long hair with busy schedule of studies and college? Anyways…I answered that its my problem.

So till first six months, everything was absolutely fine. I used to apply coconut oil every night to enhance the growth and also took care of diet by adding more vegetables and fruits in my diet.

After six months, I caught hold of a hair dresser and totally changed my hair style. I told her that I am going to grow hair so set it in such a fashion that back combing is possible.

She suggested re-bonding. With the iron, she made my hair straight and then set them in backward direction. She asked me to apply lots of gel or oil and comb in backward direction.

I used to wash hair and after drying, I used to apply hair oil elaborately. It acted as a conditioner and I could comb hair without any tangles. Oil helped to comb hair neatly.

After one year, I could wear hair in a small ponytail. The routine remained the same.

After two years, length was around 1 foot and managing was bit difficult. I requested mother to help me out which she happily agreed. She helped me for combing and braiding. Generally, guys and gals hate oil, but I was an exception. So mother used to apply oil then, massage and she used to make a nice braid of hair.

A new guy used to get startled with my hairstyle but I was determined and I was fulfilling my dream.

After third year, hair reached half of the back. Sometimes, I used to wear hair in a single ponytail. Mother taught me to wear hair bun. So she used to make a neat bun of my hair at the back of my neck. Sometimes, she used to make a neat braid and then roll it in a bun. I started growing beard.

Now it was almost 4th year and my hair almost reached my waist. Bathing was a bit problem, I had to wear shower cap. Combing used to take a lot of time but I was enjoying it as my dream came true.

Now I do everything myself. As far as possible, I wash hair daily. Then I dry them. Before heading for college, I wear them in bun. After coming from college, I apply hair oil and comb them neatly. After combing, removing the tangles, I wear them in a neat and tidy braid. And then again a braided bun.

All along last 4 years, I lied to everyone that lord Shiva directed me to grow hair long. So I decided to do repentance and consulted a priest. He suggested me to wear hair in the same fashion, lord Shiva wears them, like a yogi/ hermit.

I took a vow to wear hair in the same fashion, as lord Shiva wears. Normally, Sikh men wear hair in this fashion, A hair bun on the top of the head.

So, I requested one of my collegemate to teach me. Being Sikh he wears his long hair in a bun. For me, he untied his hair bun. His hair length was around a feet longer than me.Then he showed me how to tie a bun.

I came home and practiced. But it was a lose and incorrect. I requested mother to do so.
Firstly, she applied hair oil, then she combed hair in backward direction, starting from neck. She divided hair into two portion. She tied a braid of the lower portion and bun of the other portion on the top of the head and then wound the braid around it. I was looking a perfect yogi like lord Shiva.

Subsequently, I started doing it myself by tying a neat and tight bun of my long hair on top of the head.

This hair style, gave me a lot of spiritual insight. I inclined more towards prayers and meditation. I read that, hair bun on top of head attracts cosmic rays and helps in concentration. Again I met that priest. He asked me to make jata/ dreads of my hair and wear them in bun.

It was a great decision. Because of diet, oil massage and liking for long hair, my hair became long and healthy. Now changing over to dreads will put everything in vain.

But I decided to do so. I tool help of that priest. He invited me on an auspicious day. He gave me a vow of jata vrat.(Vow to wear hair in jata/ dreads). He brought white colour latex of a Banyan tree.

He untied my hair bun and with his palm he started applying banyan tree latex to my hair like hair oil and my normal hair became matted. Dreads.

After applying it thoroughly, he twisted my hair and made a hair bun of matted hair on top of my head just like lord Shiva. This will remain permanently in that fashion.

I earned my parents respect after this ceremony. They felt, I am serious about the divine message.

Now its almost 7th year in progress. I don’t take care of hair. Hair grow with the grace of lord Shiva. I take guidance of the priest and whenever I see him, he helps me to tie a neat hair bun of my matted hair.

I go to post graduation college. I pray, meditate every day for spiritual attainment.

Other students tease me, but I neglect. I am focused. The thing which had started as a fun has changed my life.

Story 6 : Lost the battle to my friend on hair length

Lost the Battle!

After graduating from High School, I went to work for my father in the
construction business.  I could have had a desk job, but I liked the out of
doors.  I started from the ground up.  I didn’t mind it at all for I wanted
to learn the business so that was a logical place to begin.  As a lark while
in High School, I began to let my hear grow.  I really liked the idea of the
short styles that were beginning to be turned out at the barbershop, but I
took on my best friend who dared me to let my hair grow.  I told Brad that I
would let my hair grow as long as he did…..BIG  MISTAKE!  During High
School, it was fun and after we graduated, we continued on the quest.

When I began working for my dad and working out of doors, the long hair did not
seem to bother me that much.  I was used to it by then.  However, when
spring came, I found that I was uncomfortable with the long hair, but Brad
hadn’t given in so I wasn’t either.  The first three years that I worked for
my father, the hair kept getting longer and longer.  The hair got so long
that it became a problem.  My hair is blonde, extremely thick, and straight.
The hair was well below my shoulders - actually to the waist.  Not only was
it becoming a pain, but it really took a long time to wash and dry.  I even
got to the point where I asked my mother if she would braid it in one big
braid.  Of course Mom was happy to do it.  Dad came in the day Mom was
braiding my hair for the first time and he just shook his head and said,
“Tom!  Isn’t it about time for this foolishness between you and Brad come to
a screeching halt?  That braid looks so bad.  To think my son would walk
around with a braid is really going a little too far.”

I looked up at him as Mom was finishing and said, “I hate this hair.  I
wished I could get it all shaved off, but I sure am not going to let Brad
win this one.”  Dad just shook his head and said, “That hair of yours had
better not get in the way of safety on the job.  Yes!  I am concerned about
you and my other workers.  I assured Dad that I would make sure that it didn
’t become a safety issue.  When I went to work, I just put the big braid
inside of my shirt and it didn’t cause a problem.  I sure hated it, but I
couldn’t bring myself to let Brad win.

I did notice that when I washed my hair and Mom gave me a big, tight braid,
the hair dried slowly and the braid became tighter.  I still was fighting
it.  This went on for the rest of the year and then I received a call from
Brad.  It seems he wanted to get a job while going on to college and he
needed to cut his hair for the job.  I said to myself, “YES!  I’ve won.
Thank God that it is over.”  Brad was away at school so I couldn’t go and
watch him get his hair cut, but he E-Mailed me a series of pictures of him
getting his hair cut.  I was happy to see the pictures, but I wasn’t that
thrilled as to the style he got.  He still had hair on the top of his head
that well over 4 inches long.  He did look great when the cut was finished.

I almost shouted in the phone while speaking with Brad about the pictures
and the fact I could finally get rid of some of this hair.   When Brad and I
hung up, I was ecstatic!  Finally it was over.  Brad had lost the battle.  I
didn’t say a word to the folks.  Spring was in the air and the air
temperature began to increase and the sun was shining more and more.  I
thought it would be a good time to lose some of this hair and begin to get a
tan.  I wanted to go Trout Fishing so I had planned my vacation such that I
would have my vacation in the spring.  I had 3 full weeks of fishing.  As
you can tell, I love to fish.

Dad usually took off some time about this time, but he had several new
project beginning and he couldn’t get off.  I do finishing work, so since
the projects were just started, by the time I returned to work, the
finishing work would be beginning.  I thought that was great planning.  Dad
agreed to my plan.  Since Brad now was cutting his hair on a regular basis,
I was so looking forward to visiting the barbershop for the first time in
about 5 years.  As we were eating breakfast, Dad said, “Tom!  What are you
going to be doing your first day of vacation?  Trout season doesn’t begin
for 3 days.”  I surprised both Dad and Mom when I said I was going to get a
haircut!  They both looked surprised and I said, “Brad finally gave in and
he has cut his hair so I will get to get mine cut.”  Dad said, “I bet you
will be glad to get rid of that mess.”  The next thing I said shocked both
of them.  I said, “You know!  I have gotten used to this hair.  It will be
most difficult getting rid of some of it, so I guess I will just get the
ends trimmed so it looks a little better when it isn’t braided.”  To that
statement, Dad just shook his head.

I left the house and was on my way to get my hair cut.  I was looking
forward to it, but I wasn’t.  As I was driving to the barbershop, I couldn’t
decide how much to get cut off.  When I arrived at the barbershop, the place
was packed.  I wasn’t about to go in with all of those eyes on my huge
braid.  I didn’t know why, but the first shops I stopped at, were extremely
busy.  I went looking around for a barbershop that wasn’t busy.  I found one
and it took me a few minutes to find a parking spot.  As I was walking back
to the barbershop, I noticed four men in uniform.  They were walking ahead
of me and I could see that they all had really short haircuts.  They went
into the barbershop and I followed in after them.

I couldn’t wait to see what cut they were going to get.  I guessed they all
would get a light trim.  It turned out that the four were State Policemen.
They were in uniform so no doubt they would be going out on patrol after
their haircut.  I sat and watched.  The barber, Ned, was a young man of
about 25.  He had one client in the chair and he was getting a short ivy
league so I got to see the finished product and it looked really sharp -
well cut.  I knew I was in the right place.  The first officer got up and
said hi to Ned and sat down in the chair.  As the cape was put around his
neck, Ned said, “The usual Stu?”  Stu said, “Yep!”  That was all that was
said.  In no time what hair Stu had on his head was gone.  I was really into
this cut since this is the first really clipper shaved haircut I had seen.
Well!  It turned out not to be a clipper shave but a razor shaved cut.  Talk
about hitting the jackpot.  I couldn’t believe my eyes.  In no time Stu was
shaved twice and his head glowed.  Talk about shine.  He looked really
AWESOME with that shiny head in the uniform.

When he came over and sat down, I told him how fantastic I thought he looked
with the head shaved.  Stu thanked me and noticed the huge braid I had.  The
braid was inside of my shirt, but you could see a small portion of it at the
collar.  Stu didn’t say anything other than Thanks!  The next officer was
getting the same treatment.  He too looked AWESOME with the shiny head and
his uniform.  I thought, ‘there is something about a man in a uniform with a
bald head that I think looks so terrific.  Ben stepped from the chair and
thanked Ned for a great cut.  Ben came over and sat down next to Stu.  As he
sat down, I said, “Great look!”  Ben thanked me and asked me what style I
was getting.  I was facing him so he didn’t see my braid.

Cal was next and when Ned finished, he too was sporting the Head Shave and
he looked equally fantastic as Stu and Ben.  Stu and Ben were talking with
me so Cal came over and sat on my other side.  I looked at him and told him
how great the cut looked on him.  He too thanked me and as he and I turned
to talk with Stu & Ben, Cal asked me about the braid.  He said, “Why would
any man in their right mind want a braid that big?  Why would any man want
hair that long?  I laughed and told the three of the wager that my classmate
and I made and that Brad had finally given in and I won.  They all wanted to
know what I won and I told them that I won the distinction of letting my
hair grow longer (time) than Brad.  They wanted to know if I was going to
get it cut off and I told them I couldn’t bring myself to getting it cut.
They wanted to know what I was doing there if not for a haircut.  It old
them I needed to build up some courage to try and get the hair cut a little.
As we talked, Jim was just about finished.  He too got his head completely
shaved.

Just as Jim was finished, in walked a Marine recruiting officer.  He had a
very short haircut.  I knew from experience of the four state policemen,
that he too was going to get a head shave.  He looked fantastic the way he
was.

Just then, Ned said, “Next!  I think you young man is next.”  I got up and
didn’t know what to do.  I wanted short hair, but I just couldn’t bring
myself to tell Ned, to cut it off.  After all, it has been with me for over
5 years.  I said, “Let the Marine here go first.  I am on vacation so I am
in no hurry.  The Marine thanked me and sat down.  Yep!  I was right.  The
marine was getting his head shaved.  The more hair he lost, the better he
looked.  I made that comment with the four state policemen.  They were
waiting for the Marine.  It seems they are good pals.  When the Marine was
finished, he got up and Ned invited me to take the chair.

I stood up and thought, ‘should I do it?’  Just then, Jim pulled my huge
braid out and said, “Young man!  This has got to go.” Just then the Marine
saw it and said, “Cripe!  That has to be the biggest one I have ever seen in
my entire life.”  I grinned and he asked me, “What is going on here?”  I
took the time to tell everyone including Ned the story.  Ned said, “I hope
you came here today for me to cut that disgusting thing off.”  I said, “I
came here to get some of it cut.”  All six of them said, “Oh!  NO! NO! NO!
It all has to go.  You aren’t going to get out of here with just a little
trim.  We will see to that.”  For some reason, I wasn’t the least nervous as
I sat down in the chair.  Ned put the cape on me and pulled the braid out.
He looked at me and said, “We were just joking!  What do you really want
done today?”  I looked at the five officers standing there.  I winked at
them and said, “Ned!  Let’s take it all off!  I have been waiting for this
for over 5 years.”  I then said, “How about you five having a go at cutting
the braid off?”  They all smiled and began rubbing their hands.  I told Ned
I wanted to save the braid as a reminder of my foolish years!  Ned put a
big, tight rubber band around the braid close to my head.

The Marine came up to me and asked me if I was nervous and I told him I wasn
’t.  I said, “I can’t wait to get rid of it.”  He picked up the scissors and
made of slice and said, “Dam!  Your hair is really thick.  Each had a go at
it and when Tom got his turn, the braid came free.”  Ned said, “I bet you
have one strong neck having to hold up this!  He picked it up and said, “It
must weight 2 pounds.”  He walked in the back and weighed it.  He came out
and said, “Boys!  I was wrong, it weighs almost 3 pounds.  Now that is a lot
of hair.”

Ned laid the braid aside and said, “Well young man, how are we going to
finish this?”  I said, “My name is Tom.  I don’t know.  It sure feels great
the way it is.  I will let it up to the officers.”  They all looked at each
other and grinned.  I was hoping they would say, “SHAVE HIM!” but they didn’
t.  The all walked forward and said, “Give us the clippers.”  Each one took
a turn and before I knew it, I looked pretty much skinned.  I was loving
every moment of it.  When they each had a turn, they handed the clippers
back to Ned and then said, “SHAVE IT!”

I was surprised that all five of them sat down and waited for the haircut to
end.  When I was turned around to face the mirror, I was so happy to see
that shining head!  BOY!  Did it look and feel great.  I thanked all of the
men.  They all came to me and shook my hand.  I was congratulated by all.  I
paid Ned and gave him a good tip.  I picked up my huge braid and left with
the officers.  I sure did feel great.  The first rays of sun hit the head
and it felt so good.  I couldn’t get over how smooth my head was and the
sensations I suddenly became aware of.  I knew right then I wouldn’t let
hair grow on my head again.  What a feeling!  When I got home, the folks
were out so I went to my room and looked more closely to my bald head.  I
loved what I saw.  Then it dawned on me that I didn’t ask Ned what he used
to get my head to shine.  I did notice that he put something on my head once
the cream was washed away but I didn’t know what it was.  I got on the phone
and called him and he told me what he did.

I now know I will go back each week for Ned to give me a good shave.  I was
sitting in the living room watching TV when the folks came home.  They
couldn’t believe their eyes.  They both had to rub my head and Dad said,
“Son!  That haircut looks great on you.  I do hope you will consider on
keeping it.  It is you.”  Mom said, “I can’t get over how masculine you look
and how your eyes really stand out.  I have never seen them so blue.  The
bald head suits you perfectly.  Do keep it shaved!  I love it!  Did you save
the braid?”  I told Mom that I did.

Well for the next three weeks, I didn’t let the hair grow back.  Each week I
went to Ned’s and he gave me a good shave.  It felt so good for him to do
the shaving.  I loved doing the shaving myself, but I do like to have
someone else do it.  The feeling is totally different.  When I went back to
work, my skin had gotten a good tan on it.  I felt great and was still
loving the freedom I experienced the very first day of the shaving.  My
fellow workers couldn’t get over how different I looked.  They all gave me a
positive approval.

That summer, Brad came home and he couldn’t get over my bald, tanned head.
He said, “WOW!  That looks great!  I thought about doing something like
that, but I couldn’t bring myself to asking for it.”  I couldn’t pass up the
opportunity to invite him to go with me to Ned’s and get cleaned up.  Brad
said, “I’ll go with you, but I won’t get my head shaved.”  I thought, ‘I bet
he will!’  Sure enough my five friends were there as I knew they would.  I
knew the day and time they will be there so I made sure we were there just
before they came in.  I introduced Brad to them.  Brad seemed a little
uncomfortable, but when it came his turn, he got in the chair and said, “I
would like a trim.”  The guys spoke up and said, “Trim!  That is Ned’s
specialty.  So Ned, give the young man a trim.”  Ned leaned forward and said
to Brad, “The trim they are talking about is like Tom’s there.”  Brad said,
“GO  FOR  IT!”  That surprised me.  Later he told me he loved the look the
five had and me so he wanted to try it.  He loves it.  So Brad and I have
come the full circle.  We both started off our relationship in grade school
with crew cuts and here we are coming out from under long hair to a bald
head.  Brad didn’t know if he was going to keep his head shave, but I sure
do know I am.  There is no other style I would want.  The officers sure know

what is best.
