Hair Oiling of a girl from Kerala - My friend Kavya Nair

I daily oils my hair with coconut oil. As an Keralite , we go to bath after applying oil to hair and we don't wash off the oil from the hair completely.

This gives the advantage of non sticky hair. Also I apply oil to scalp in large quantity than the remaining sides of the hair. Applying to scalp spreads to each corner. I dont let go one day without oiling my hair. Sometimes on Sunday I fully wash my hair without remaining oil contents, but the other day I applies in large quantity and that too I don't use shampoo or soap but just pour warm water to avoid from removing oil contents from my hair.

Again the next day till Sunday I only applies to scalp and rubs gently. We should keep in mind that if don't want to oil in each corner of the scalp then just oil heavily to the upper part of the heads scalp, this will spread the oil contents to each and every corner.

I have a very long hair as most of the keralites have and oiling the hair daily is in the Malayalam tradition and I follow to great extent. This has resulted to long thick hair. Please try the above and post your comments

Painful lice combing schedule for a man

I am a 28 years old male living in vikhroli mumbai. I live alone here since last 4 years and my family is in my native.i keep long hairs upto my waist and normally tie it in a pony or a plait or some time in a bun.

Since last 1 month i have been suffering with lice infection in my hair. As a stay alone i have no one to take care of it . So i discussed this with my neighbour's daughter who is very close to me. She initially laughed at me, but then told me she will come next day afternoon. I wondered what she was going to do. Next day she came in the afternoon and showed me the lice comb she had bought for me. She asked me to bring coconut oil bottle and sit facing my back to her.

She Opened my plait and started searching for nits in hair by moving her fingers in my hair. After some time she oiled my hair heavily and started combing my hairs with lice come. She found many and handed over to me for killing. This continued for about 1 hour until no more lice were found in lice comb. Then she tied my hair in bun and asked me to clean my clothes and keep the comb.

She told she will repeat this after 2 or 3 days so as to get rid of lice. I thanked her. I immediately felt a huge relief by itching scalp. after another 2 sessions i got much relief. Atlast i thought i was free from lice.

But again yesterday night i felt lot of itching and so went to her home to ask for lice combing. Her mother (my neighbouring aunt) opened the door and told me she had gone to some relatives place for 2 days. She also told me that her daughter had discussed my lice issue to her and she can do tomorrow morning for me if i don't mind. I smiled and she asked me to bring my lice comb and come to her house.

Today even being sunday i woke early and had bath took the lice comb and went to her place,. She also followed the same routine as her daughter did but oiled my hair more heavily. Just finished 2 hour of lice combing from her. She had asked me not to wash my hair and come in afternoon when she and her 2 maids will make me sit in our common balcony or terrace and do harsh and painful lice combing. Also asked me to buy 3 lice comb and bottle of castor oil which she will mix with coconut oil and apply in my hair before lice combing, just purchased lice combs and castor oil.

Experience 02) Observing a women while oiling her hair

This is one of my another experience which I got when I was at restaurant and bar which was most glass.

I found on the opposite side of the road a small house where I saw a lady which having nice long upto her ass and she comes out for dressing her hair. She opened her braid and oiled it nicely and made a bun for the oil to spread nicely in the hair.

Then after some time she started to comb her hair (after combing her bun). As she was combing her hair it was looking nice and her hair was very thick as she combed the oily hair was looking nice and she combing tightly.

Her full back without part was looking was great. Then draped her on one side and combed it and then made a small ball and combed the bottom of her hair.

Then suddenly her kid cam out and started playing on the road. She ran behind him and her hair was dancing and looking nice.

Then she draped on the other side and combed it nicely. She applied some in the bottom half of her hair some what and again combed with a centre apart. Then she pulled her back and made a nice tightly combed braid. After that rolled it into a nice bun.

Experience 01) Observing a women while oiling her hair

This is one of my experiences which I got when I was at my friend’s place on a weekend. He wanted to go out and I stayed at his place for sometime.

To my surprise I found at a distance, couple of buildings away, one lady in her mid 40’s came out in gallery and opened her half oiled hair which were in a bun. She gently oiled her hair for sometime with Parachute coconut oil, which I could make out from blue color bottle.

Her hair were just below shoulders and was dense black. After oiling her for some time she started combing her with her black comb. All this I was watching from my friends house and she was not aware of it.

As she was combing she oiled her hair. It was like she was dipping her hair in oil. Then suddenly she went inside and bought a napkin for cleaning her comb as her hair was loaded with oil. She comb her hair full back, then went slow again cleaned the comb.

Then came the best part she made a centre part with the comb and with her beautiful hands with that centre part she made two portions exact similar and bought her in front. Mind you she was looking terrific. She then started talking to some one and as the wind kissed her hair it was mildly waving her combed and dense hair. Made it look very amazing.

Then again she started combing her hair removed all the tangles and then did some hand combing and felt her hair. By now her hair was shining and look gorgeous.

Then pulled her hair back and made a full back comb and then combed her hair for a while and made a nice single tightly combed braid looking truly amazing.

Indian long hair man writes to a long hair Chinese girl Song Yanhua

Dear Song Yanhua,

Thanks for responding to my e-mail. I am eager to see your pictures in bun soon. Once you post it, please inform us.

Well about hair tradition in India, India is a country with rich culture and heritage. In fact, Indian civilization is one of the oldest civilization like China, Egypt and Babylon. In our great epics, like Ramayana, Mahabharata find elaborate notes on woman's hairdressings, hair ornaments, hairstyles and hair growing medicines.

All the female characters have thick, long beautiful hair, which they either braid or wear in bun on the top of their head like crown or in bun. They used to decorate it with flowers and ornaments.

If you surf it on net you will get lots of stuff on this subject.

In India men also used to keep long hair. This was in respect to one Indian god "Shiva". He has very long matted hair. He wears his hair in a large coiled bun on the top of his head. If you search "SHIVA+India" in Google you'll see several images.

Our god’s have long hair wore in this fashion. It resembles "Buddha" which is prayed in your country too.

So do the Indian men, they used to wear their long hair in the same style i.e. hair coiled in bun on the top of the head and some still wear hair like that. I am one of them. I wear a topknot.

Well, I have read few articles on yoga and meditation. The tradition in men goes like this about this hairstyle, In India, our culture is based on sacrifice and highest attainment is "SALVATION". Salvation can be achieved through meditation (chanting god's name) Bun (Topknot) on the head serves like an antenna and helps to concentrate in meditation. If you see Buddha statues, you will agree with me.

However, men look appealing with flowing long hair, like our Indian god statues.

Now a day, no Indian man sports long hair except few passionate men, monks and Sikh community. Hair are short and neatly cut.

Sikh community: In this community, cutting hair is a sin. Sikh men and women do not cut their hair for the lifetime. This community is all over the world. Sikh men can be identified by their turbans and long beard. Sikh are all over the world. This community is from the state of Punjab in India. It's a warrior community. They keep hair and wear it like monk as they feel that it is confluence of a monk and warrior.

I have seen Sikh children with long hair like you, Song. They all the time wear it in a very tight bun on the top of their head. It resembles a monk/ Shiva /Buddha image. (Can you imagine not cutting hair for the lifetime; see their commitment towards the religion)

Some of my Sikh friends have hair reaching their knees and they spend around half an hour a day for braiding it, Bunning it, wearing turban. They even do not cut facial hair(do not shave for lifetime) so they have to neatly keep their beards.

Mothers must be having tough time combing long hair of their children then braiding it then bunning it EVERY DAY !!!!!! Sikh females wear their hair in braids or bun but not like men (On the top of their head) but like normal woman. But since they do not cut for the lifetime, their hair are very long. Some woman wear it like Sikh men in bun on the top of the head. (Very few) These people are just like us in professional life, schools & colleges except turban on their head. Long hair is a subject of pride for Sikh men and woman. Interesting indeed.

Regarding Indian woman, in cities like Mumbai (Bombay), Delhi most of the woman are working so they have short hair which they can manage very fast. In big cities, we have modern salons, where you can get any hair cut under the sun.In any colour. Still some woman keep long hair.

In fact I strongly feel woman look most beautiful in long hair.

In India applying hair oil regular practise Normally all woman apply oil while combing. It helps them to remove hair tangles easily. Woman normally use coconut oil or mustard oil for the same. But in Indian villages and small towns you will find most of the women sporting long hair oiled and neatly combed into a single braid or a large bun on the back of the head. If I am not exaggerating, Long hair oiled and combed neatly into a braid or a tight bun could be National hair style of India.

Hair oil keeps hair in proper shape so in most of the schools in India, applying oil to hair is compulsory for girls and boys and their hair have to be neatly combed into braid(for girls) and short hair for boys. It is a part of discipline. Traditionally mother combs daughters hair like your mother. Grown up girl does it on her own.

Few men also aspire to grow hair but normally if they are into modelling/ rock group. But still in India if they see a guy like this with long hair or a ponytail or hair wore in bun, he is not considered as a part of mainstream he is considered to be a rebel.

But all of our gods, goddesses are with long hair and still 80% woman in India sport long hair.

Now I will tell you totally opposite story. In India we have richest temple in the world. It is called "TIRUPATI-BALAJI" it is situated in Southern India. Its a strong belief of Indians, that whatever you pray for, "TIRUPATI-BALAJI" fulfills it. Every day minimum 1,00,000 pilgrims visit this place. During festivals, it is up to 5,00,000 pilgrims a day. People vow to god. After fulfilment of their vow, they offer hair to god "TIRUPATI-BALAJI" MEN & WOMAN TONSH THEIR HEAD, THEY OFFER HAIR TO GOD. BELIEVE ME WOMAN OFFER THEIR LONG HAIR AND BECOME BALD; AFTER FULFILMENT OF THEIR WISH.

IT'S AWFUL SEEING A BARBER WITH A BLADE/RAZOR SHAVING A WOMAN'S HEAD AND HER LONG HAIR FALLING OFF HER HEAD. EVERY DAY MANY WOMAN OFFER THEIR LONG FLOWING HAIR LIKE THAT. THAT'S AMAZING INDIA. WHERE YOU FIND VARIETY OF CULTURES AND TRADITIONS.

I hope Song, you are not tired and bored after reading my long E-MAIL. Hope you enjoyed reading it. Do reply again. Warm wishes,

Sikh Girl - Hair care ritual - Oiling, combing, making bun

Hi, my name is Anita Kaur. I am a Sikh girl from India. I sport very long hair because I have not cut my hair since my birth. Now I am 24 years old and my hair touch my knees. I belong to Sikh religion in which both men & woman do not cut their hair throughout the lifetime. It’s very difficult but (definitely for men) but we are proud of it.

I always wear my hair in bun on top of my head. Not for the style but my religion recommends. I wash my hair twice a week and after drying, I apply lots of hair oil. I have thick hair and these heavy mass needs hair oil for neatly combing and removing tangles and managing properly.

Hair oil gives it shiny and wet look. It also conditions hair. Normally I wear bun on top of my head like a monk (good example could be hairstyle wore by “Buddha" or any Hindu God). I also wear a turban or scarf.

Sometimes I wear a single braid of well oiled hair. It looks like a Nagin (female naga - snake)

After applying oil and combing, I braid them in opposite direction i.e. my braid starts from my forehead. After braiding, I make a braided bun on top of my head, near forehead. I wrap a scarf around it.

Generally my mother helps me out. And I help my brother who also has hair reaching his thighs. We spend @20 minutes everyday in hair care as we are work. I work in a bank and my brother works in a software company.

Due to regular care my hair are healthy, shiny. I would certainly marry a Sikh guy with long hair as I am passionate about it and I would help him in maintaining long hair as per our religion

Happy hair growing and caring

I am Tamil but sport hair like Sikh boy

Hi! I am Priyamvad again posting about hair oiling and making hair bun.

Today I washed hair with shampoo and then wrapped in towel turban on top of head for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes hair were moist and requested my mother to comb my hair.

Mother grabbed bottle of Parachute coconut hair oil and sat on a chair. She asked me to sit on the floor. She started applying oil on my head elaborately and later applied to hair and ends. She massaged for 5 to 7 minutes and spreaded oil evenly to all portion of hair.
Then she combed hair neatly.

I requested her to tie hair in bun on top of head as she like my hair worn like that.

She asked me to stand up and bow down. My hair were hanging on my face. She started combing starting from neck. After neatly combing, she grabbed hair and twisted them and made a hair bun on top of head closer to forehead.
Today she didn't make braided bun.

I was looking like a monk. Then I wrapped a cotton cloth around my head like a Sikh boy. Although I am Tamil, I looked Sikh.

However, I don't have beard as I regularly shave so it was like a Sikh boy without beard.
